
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) delivered drama, dominance, and a flood of goals on Matchday 9 as the first round of the season wrapped up in grand style. Across nine centres, a staggering 29 goals were scored, underlining the attacking quality and growing competitiveness of the NWFL Premiership.
From Yenagoa to Lafia and Port Harcourt to Aba, the final round of the first stanza confirmed early favourites, exposed defensive cracks, and ignited fresh storylines ahead of the second round.

Group A: Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels Stay in Control
Bayelsa Queens 2–0 Ekiti Queens
In Yenagoa, the Prosperity Girls did exactly what leaders do. They took control.
Bankole Sofiat opened the scoring in the 24th minute, finishing calmly to give the hosts the advantage before halftime. Ekiti Queens fought bravely and stayed compact for long spells, but the gulf in quality eventually told.
In the 55th minute, Delight Isaac doubled Bayelsa’s lead, sealing a comfortable 2–0 victory. The result means Bayelsa Queens end the first round at the top of Group A with 21 points. Ekiti Queens remain sixth, having battled but fallen short against the defending champion and one of the title contenders.
Rivers Angels 2–1 Edo Queens
The South-South derby in Port Harcourt delivered intensity and quality.
Abasiofon Uwah put Rivers Angels ahead from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after a handball by Marilyn Essien inside the box. Edo Queens responded swiftly through Atume Doosuur in the 26th minute, setting up a finely balanced contest.
Just before halftime, Uwah struck again to complete her brace and restore Rivers Angels’ lead. The hosts held firm in the second half to secure a crucial 2–1 win.
The victory lifts Rivers Angels into second place with 21 points, level with Bayelsa but separated by goal difference. Edo Queens remain third on 18 points and firmly in the Super Six race.
Adamawa Queens 2–1 Heartland Queens
Adamawa Queens dug deep in Makwada to claim maximum points.
Omon Afensimi struck in the 18th minute before an own goal by Immaculate Paul in the 28th minute brought Heartland level. Afensimi, however, rose to the occasion again in the 55th minute to restore Adamawa’s advantage.
The win moves Adamawa into fourth position with 13 points. While the gap to the top three remains significant, this could be shaping into their most competitive campaign yet. Heartland Queens sit fifth with 11 points.
Naija Ratels 1–0 Pacesetter Queens
In Abuja, the relegation battle saw Naija Ratels edge Pacesetter Queens thanks to Omeje Chukwube’s 48th-minute strike.
The result moves Ratels to five points from eight matches, while Pacesetter Queens remain rooted at the bottom with just one point.
Group B: Robo Queens Shocked, Remo Stars Cruise
Nasarawa Amazons 4–2 FC Robo Queens
If there was one result that truly stunned observers, it was in Lafia.
FC Robo Queens had conceded just two goals in seven matches. In 46 chaotic minutes, they conceded four.
Sunday Ohunene stunned the visitors as early as the second minute. Joy Iortyom equalised in the 14th minute, but Ayatsea Hembafan restored Nasarawa’s lead in the 16th minute. Jumoke Alani made it 3–1 in the 40th minute before Bibiana Odoh added a fourth immediately after the restart.
Rafiu Tosin pulled one back in the 76th minute, but the damage was done.
Despite the heavy defeat, FC Robo Queens still end the first round top of Group B with 21 points. However, the aura of invincibility has taken a hit.
Remo Stars Ladies 3–0 Dannaz Ladies
Inside the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Remo Stars Ladies were clinical.
Aishat Animashaun opened the scoring in the 14th minute and doubled the lead in the 75th minute. Daniella Fagbenro added a third in the 86th minute to cap a dominant display.
Remo Stars Ladies solidify second place in Group B with 18 points, while Dannaz Ladies remain eighth.
Abia Angels 5–2 Ahudiyannem Queens
History was made in Aba as the first ever Abia derby delivered fireworks.
Winner David wrote her name into the record books with a first half hat trick, scoring in the 12th, 28th and 43rd minutes. Chinwendu Orji pulled one back before halftime.
In the second half, Blessing Saleh and Obianuju Akwubo extended Abia Angels’ dominance, while Tobi Oghenerugba added a late consolation for Ahudiyannem Queens.
Osun Babes 1–1 Delta Queens
Favour Damaris gave Delta Queens the lead in the 19th minute before Tabitha Terlumun equalised for Osun Babes in the 44th minute. Both sides shared the spoils.
Confluence Queens 0–0 Sunshine Queens
In Iyamho, Confluence Queens and Sunshine Queens battled to a goalless draw in a tightly contested affair.
