Ahmed Musa Takes Responsibility for Kano Pillars Violence, Promises Action After NPFL Chaos

The Super Eagles captain expresses deep remorse and vows reforms after shocking scenes at the Sani Abacha Stadium marred Kano Pillars’ NPFL draw against Shooting Stars.

Kano Pillars General Manager and former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has issued a powerful apology following the violent incident that overshadowed his club’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Sunday evening in Kano.

The match, which ended 1–1 after Shooting Stars scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser, descended into chaos as some Kano Pillars supporters invaded the pitch and attacked match officials and opposing players. The disturbing scenes were widely condemned across Nigerian football.

In a heartfelt statement released on his verified social media pages, Ahmed Musa described the incident as “unfortunate, painful, and disgraceful,” adding that it was “heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable.”

“I, Ahmed Musa, the General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, extend my deepest and most sincere apologies for the unfortunate, painful, and disgraceful incident that occurred during our game against Shooting Stars Sports Club on Sunday evening,” Musa wrote.

The former Leicester City and Al Nassr forward emphasized that the behaviour of a few fans does not reflect the true values of Kano Pillars, a club renowned for its passion and community spirit.

“As a club with deep roots and loyal supporters, we are expected to set an example of fairness and honour on and off the pitch. Sadly, today, we fell far short of that standard,” he admitted.

Musa went on to tender an unreserved apology to Shooting Stars’ players, coaches, and supporters, as well as to the referees, NPFL board, GTI partners, and all Nigerian football fans who were disappointed by the events.

“Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and goes against everything this beautiful sport stands for,” he stressed. “Football is meant to unite, to inspire, to bring joy. When it turns into chaos and harm, we must confront it head-on.”

Musa also assured that Kano Pillars will fully cooperate with the NPFL authorities to identify and punish those responsible for the violence. He promised that the club will take decisive internal measures to ensure such an incident never happens again.

“We understand that apologies alone are not enough. Words must be followed by action. We will take strong internal steps to prevent this from happening again,” he said.

Speaking directly to the club’s passionate fanbase, Musa appealed for calm and discipline, urging supporters to channel their energy positively.

“Kano Pillars is a proud club with a rich legacy, and you are the heartbeat of this club. But true support is shown not through violence, but through respect, passion, and discipline,” he said. “This must be a turning point for us. Our love for the club should lift its image, not stain it.”

Musa concluded by taking full responsibility on behalf of the club and vowed to restore trust and integrity to Kano Pillars and Nigerian football.

“Once again, on behalf of Kano Pillars Football Club, I offer my most heartfelt and unreserved apology to everyone affected — the NPFL, Shooting Stars, referees, and every fan of Nigerian football. We take full responsibility and will do everything necessary to restore respect, trust, and the true spirit of football in Kano and across Nigeria,” he said.

The NPFL management is expected to take disciplinary action following the incident, as calls grow louder for stricter sanctions against fan violence in Nigerian football.
