The stage is set for an intense football spectacle as Nigeria’s Flying Eagles prepare to take on Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco in Group B of the 24th edition of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18, 2025.

Following a redraw at the Egypt Football Association headquarters in Cairo—prompted by Cote d’Ivoire’s withdrawal as hosts—the tournament’s groupings have shifted, altering Nigeria’s path to continental glory. Originally slated to face Egypt and South Africa, the Flying Eagles now find themselves in a diverse and competitive group featuring two North African powerhouses and a determined East African side.

Revised Group Draw:

  • Group A: Egypt (hosts), Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania
  • Group B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco
  • Group C: Senegal (defending champions), Central African Republic, DR Congo, Ghana

The tournament’s format remains unchanged: the top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals. Beyond the continental prize, a bigger incentive looms—the top four teams will qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, set to kick off from September 27 to October 19, 2025.

Now back in Abuja after an intensive three-week training camp in Katsina, the Flying Eagles—seven-time African champions—are fine-tuning preparations before heading to Egypt for a final eight-day build-up. The squad, bolstered by a mix of domestic talent and overseas-based prospects, is determined to reclaim continental dominance and secure a coveted spot on the world stage.

As anticipation builds, fans across Nigeria will be watching closely to see if this promising squad can rise to the occasion and once again etch their names into African football history.
