According to eyewitnesses and police reports, Bala used his fingernails to scratch the player’s neck during an argument that allegedly began when Temitope attempted to defend himself from a provocation in the stands.

Justice moved quickly in this case. On Thursday, a Chief Magistrate Court in Lafia found Bashir Bala guilty of a three-count charge brought by the Nigeria Police: assault, criminal force, and public disturbance.
