The battle for supremacy in Nigerian women’s football is underway, and after two fiercely contested rounds at the NWFL Super 6 in Ikenne, Ogun State, Remo Stars Ladies have emerged as early pace-setters, proving their underdog status is no barrier to brilliance.

In what has been a dream start for the hosts, Remo Stars Ladies claimed their second straight win on Monday by narrowly defeating Naija Ratels 1-0. The difference came early in the tie, with Bolaji Olamide’s 14th-minute goal separating both sides. That strike not only sealed victory but also underlined the team’s defensive solidity and rising confidence.

Their campaign began with an upset over reigning champions Edo Queens, and now with two wins out of two, they sit atop the standings with 6 points, looking like genuine contenders for the NWFL title.

Matchday 2 Recap: Drama, Penalties, and Former Club Heartbreaks

Elsewhere, fans were treated to an entertaining clash between Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Jenat Akekeromowei gave Nasarawa the lead from the penalty spot in the 56th minute — her second goal of the tournament — before substitute Dooshima Tarnum, facing her former club, silenced her old teammates with a 62nd-minute equalizer.

Edo Queens took the lead in the 26th minute through Emem Essien, but a 38th-minute own goal by Valentina Uroko brought Rivers Angels back into the contest. Despite both sides pressing for a winner, the scoreline remained 1-1 at full time.
