Bayelsa Queens have once again written their name in the history books, clinching the 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) title after a thrilling Super 6 finale. The Prosperity Girls secured the championship with 10 points, showing grit and consistency until the very last match day.

After the final whistle, team captain Abiola Blessing Iliviead was beaming with joy, barely able to contain her emotions. Speaking to Awijare.com, she gave a heartfelt and passionate reaction to the title win, praising her teammates, coaches, and above all — her faith in God.

“I’m short of words. I’m really so excited. It’s just God all the way,” she began. “The hard work of the girls, the dedication, the fight, the correction — it has been superb from the beginning of the season till now.”

Overcoming Setbacks with Belief

The captain didn’t shy away from speaking about the challenges the team faced, especially their 1-0 loss to Edo Queens in the penultimate round of matches. But instead of letting it break their spirit, Iliviead rallied her teammates with belief.

“Even when we were down, that Edo beat us, I told my team there is hope. We can still win this. We just needed more effort in the last game,” she recounted.

And it was in the final game that Bayelsa Queens found their spark. According to the captain, a second-half surge made all the difference.

“When we came out for the second half, everybody was on fire. We had that burning desire to win — and at the end, our efforts were crowned.”

Eyes on WAFCON Glory

With the NWFL trophy now secured, the next target is the WAFU-B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League. Abiola, brimming with confidence, believes Bayelsa Queens can repeat what Edo Queens achieved last year — an unbeaten run to the continental ticket.

“That’s what we’re going to give Nigeria — the ticket. I’m very sure about that,” she said.

Faith and Focus Beyond the Celebration

Despite the overwhelming joy of lifting the NWFL title, Iliviead’s thoughts quickly turned to her faith and the bigger mission ahead.

“I owe God everything. My promise was that if we win, I’ll spend time with Him. For me, the celebration ends today because a champion doesn’t over-celebrate. We have a bigger task ahead.”

It’s a statement that reflects the kind of leadership and maturity that has defined Abiola Blessing Iliviead throughout this campaign. With a calm head and a burning passion for success, she is leading the Prosperity Girls into a future filled with promise — and perhaps continental dominance.
