Abeokuta was set ablaze with excitement as Edo State sprinter Chidera Ezeakor blazed his way to glory in the men’s 100m final at the 2024 National Sports Festival, clinching gold with a time of 10.27 seconds.

The race, packed with elite national talent, saw Ezeakor outperform heavyweights Enoch Adegoke and Taiwo James Emmanuel, marking a career-defining moment for the Edo State athlete. This victory wasn’t just about speed—it was the culmination of years of dedication, near misses, and relentless training.

Ezeakor had earlier dropped jaws in the semifinals with a blistering Personal Best (PB) of 10.22 seconds, raising expectations for the final. And while he didn’t quite beat that PB in the title showdown, his 10.27s finish was enough to outpace the competition and secure his first-ever national sprint title.

A Journey Fueled by Determination

For Ezeakor, this win represents more than just a medal—it symbolizes years of commitment, sacrifice, and belief. After several seasons of building and striving to reach the top, the 100m final in Abeokuta was his moment, and he seized it with power and poise.

The atmosphere at the stadium erupted as he crossed the finish line, arms aloft, with a mix of disbelief and triumph etched on his face. It was a moment that etched his name into Nigerian athletics history and confirmed his place among the nation’s elite sprinters.

Beating Nigeria’s Finest

To claim gold in a field that included the seasoned Enoch Adegoke, who famously represented Nigeria at the Olympics, and the fast-rising Taiwo James Emmanuel, is no small feat. Ezeakor’s performance under pressure shows he’s not just a flash in the pan—but a contender to watch on the national and continental stages moving forward.
