Yemisi Eunice Akintoye, one of Nigeria’s top football referees, has successfully passed her CAF Elite A fitness test, taking a bold step forward in her journey to officiate at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025.
The test took place earlier this morning at the Jewel Stadium within the Jewel Sports and Aquatic Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. It is part of the ongoing CAF WAFCON Referees Preparation Course, held from May 25 to May 29, 2025.
Akintoye, a FIFA-certified Elite A Referee, is one of 24 referees and 19 assistant referees from across Africa invited to participate in the intensive physical and technical training sessions. Her successful completion of the rigorous fitness test demonstrates her readiness and resilience as she continues to rise among the continent’s best officials.
This milestone is significant not only for Akintoye personally but for Nigerian football, as it underscores the country’s growing influence in African women’s football and officiating. With WAFCON 2025 around the corner, CAF’s training camp serves as a platform to fine-tune the performance of its officiating team.
