In a sweeping and unprecedented move to preserve the integrity of grassroots football in Nigeria, the Nationwide League One (NLO) has taken decisive action against four clubs—BISON FC, Franceex United, Seamoriow FC, and ACT Di Sports Oyibo—following a confirmed case of match manipulation during the final round of the regular season at the Maracana Pitch B.

The integrity of the league came under scrutiny when two matches produced shockingly inflated scorelines. According to the official investigation signed by the NLO Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo, the results were deemed fraudulent and contrary to the spirit of fair competition.

Suspicious Scorelines Spark Probe

The matches in question were played simultaneously on May 27, 2025, as a preventive measure against foul play. However, the outcome revealed glaring irregularities. BISON FC, who had conceded just seven goals in their previous eight matches, surprisingly let in nine goals in a single game against Franceex United—using the same set of players. Seamoriow FC, who averaged two goals per match all season, also inexplicably scored nine goals in their fixture against ACT Di Sports Oyibo FC.

These shocking results were enough to trigger an emergency suspension of the league table and a full-scale investigation.

NLO Declares Verdict and Enforces Sanctions

After thorough scrutiny, the NLO Secretariat confirmed that the games were compromised, labeling the actions of the clubs as gross misconduct and football fraud.

In line with Article 4.17 of the league’s regulatory framework, the following penalties were enforced:

  • The matchday 9 fixtures involving the four clubs have been officially cancelled:
    • ACT Di Sports Oyibo FC Lagos 2–9 Seamoriow FC Lagos
    • BISON FC Lagos 0–9 Franceex United FC Lagos
  • Each club has been fined ₦500,000, to be paid into the NLO’s account.
  • All matches played by the four clubs in the 2025 season have been annulled.
  • Players and officials involved in the compromised games have been banned for two years. Their identities and photographs will be released soon.

Okaka FA Emerges Rightful Group Winner

Following the decision, Okaka FA, who earned 13 points in the group, has been declared the legitimate group winners. They will now advance to the zonal playoffs in Ijebu Ode, where they are set to battle Ikorodu City Football Academy, Magic Stars, and Lekki United.

This development serves as a strong message to football stakeholders across the country. The NLO has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and its commitment to protecting the values of sportsmanship and integrity in Nigeria’s football eNationwide League One, Nigeria grassroots football, match fixing Nigeria, Okaka FC, Seamoriow FC, BISON FC, ACT Di Sports Oyibo, Franceex United, football bans Nigeria, NLO 2025.
