The body of late Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju has been successfully repatriated from Ghana to Nigeria for burial, marking a solemn yet significant moment in the transnational boxing community’s show of solidarity and respect.
In an official statement, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ghanaian public, boxing professionals, and media outlets for their support during the emotionally difficult months since the boxer’s passing in March.

To honor the memory of the late pugilist and demonstrate its commitment to international sporting camaraderie, the GBA dispatched two key officials to Nigeria to accompany the repatriated body and represent the Authority during the burial rites. Those delegates include GBA board member Gideon Hassen Appiah and Coach Lateykwei Lartey, Head of Fit Square Boxing Gym.
GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye also confirmed that a sum of $3,000 had been delivered to the family of the late boxer via the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC). The donation includes $1,500 from Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Boxing Management, and another $1,500 contribution directly from the GBA.

“The Ghana Boxing Authority remains committed to preserving the memory of Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju with dignity and supporting his family through this difficult period,” the statement read. “We stand by our Nigerian brothers in mourning and extend our hand of friendship in solidarity.”
The GBA emphasized that the donation reflects its dedication not just to boxing excellence but to the welfare of athletes across borders.

Olanrewaju, whose promising boxing career had taken him to Ghana for professional fights, is remembered as a determined and gifted athlete whose life ended too soon. His story is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices many athletes make while pursuing their dreams far from home.
