The road to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) got underway in thrilling fashion at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, where Kun Khalifat FC claimed a vital 1–0 win over Crown FC in the opening match of the 2024–2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Promotion Playoffs.

The decisive moment came as early as the 7th minute. Kun Khalifat was awarded a penalty after a defensive mix-up in Crown FC’s box, and midfielder Ahiaeke Chijioke stepped up with confidence to slot the ball calmly into the bottom corner. His early strike gave the Owerri-based side a lead they held onto for the rest of the match.

Despite conceding early, Crown FC responded with urgency, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. However, Kun Khalifat’s defensive line held firm, absorbing pressure and limiting Crown FC to half chances.

Crown FC struggled to find a creative spark in midfield and were often caught out on the counter by the disciplined Kun Khalifat setup. While the Ogbomoso-based side showed more intensity in the second half, their efforts failed to produce any real threat, as Kun Khalifat maintained composure under pressure.

The narrow win gives Kun Khalifat FC a strong footing in the group as they chase a historic promotion to the NPFL. Their next fixtures will test their consistency, but the early goal and disciplined performance send a clear message to the rest of the playoff contenders.

As the tournament continues across the Stephen Keshi and Jay Jay Okocha stadiums in Asaba, every goal and point becomes critical in determining which teams will rise to the top flight.
