The vibrant heart of Lagos will once again host an electrifying celebration of sport and legacy as the Fifth Annual Dr and Dr (Mrs) D.K. Olukoya Women’s Basketball Fiesta takes center stage at the National Stadium Indoor Sports Hall, Surulere.

Scheduled for Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15, 2025, this annual two-day fiesta is not just a basketball competition; it is a tribute to the impactful lives of Dr Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), and his wife, Dr (Mrs) Folashade Olukoya. The event runs daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and offers an exciting lineup of elite women’s basketball teams from across the country.

This year’s edition marks the fifth in the series, and the competition has grown to become one of the most anticipated pre-season tournaments for Nigerian women’s basketball. The eight powerhouse teams confirmed to compete include

  • MFM
  • Dolphins (2024 defending champions)
  • Amazon
  • Beavers
  • Raptors IGP
  • Macspencer
  • Royal Aces, Abuja

Over the years, the tournament has crowned some of the finest teams:

  • 2021 – First Bank
  • 2022 – First Bank
  • 2023 – MFM
  • 2024 – Dolphins

This year’s event promises to raise the bar once again. Will First Bank reclaim the crown for a historic third win? Can MFM triumph as the host like they did in 2023? Or will the Dolphins dominate again with back-to-back victories? “Could this be the year a new champion emerges? Teams like Amazon, Beavers, Raptors IGP, Macspencer, or Royal Aces are all eyeing their first-ever title at the Olukoya Basketball Fiesta.” Fans can only wait and watch.

Godwin Enakhena, Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), emphasized the dual purpose of the competition during a chat with Awijare Sports.

“This is a celebration of Daddy and Mummy GO’s birthday, but it’s also an important platform for teams preparing for the upcoming NBBF-Zenith Women’s Basketball League, which kicks off its first phase on July 21.”

As the countdown begins, Surulere is set to echo with the roar of fans, the swish of nets, and the celebration of talent and leadership. Whether you’re a basketball enthusiast or someone looking to celebrate excellence, the 2025 Olukoya Women’s Basketball Fiesta is the place to be.
