In a gripping display of perseverance, destiny, and sheer football drama, Arubinjaga FA of Ikorodu Division emerged as champions of the 2025 Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) Men’s State League, defying all expectations and statistical odds.

The Unlikely Route to Glory

Heading into the final round of the Super 4, Arubinjaga FA seemed like the least likely team to lift the trophy. After two matchdays, they had only two points from two drawn games. Meanwhile, their title rivals Young Strikers FC (Island Division) and Bucknor FC (Ikeja Division) were both on four points each. All those two needed was a simple win on the final day to clinch the championship.

Arubinjaga had only one route: win big and hope for a miracle.

Matchday 3: The Day the Tide Turned

In the opening match of Matchday 3, Arubinjaga faced off against Ighalo FA, the team with the best record from the regular season. What happened next was nothing short of astonishing.

A stunning hat-trick from Olaoye Waris—with goals in the 18th, 20th, and 47th minutes—put Arubinjaga 3-0 up. Though Ighalo pulled one back in the 80th minute, the match ended 3-1 in favour of Arubinjaga FA.

Even then, the trophy wasn’t theirs yet.

Their fate hung in the balance as Young Strikers and Bucknor FC took to the pitch in the day’s second game. All either team needed was a win.

The match began with promise—Bucknor FC scored early in the 12th minute, but Young Strikers equalized in the 18th and then went ahead in the 44th. Bucknor responded with a second goal in the 54th minute to make it 2-2.

That was the final score. And just like that, Arubinjaga FA were champions.

From Second Best to Super 4 Supremacy

What made their triumph even more compelling was their regular season form. In the Mainland Conference, Arubinjaga had finished second behind Ighalo FA with just 19 points from 12 matches, winning six, drawing one, and losing five.

Ighalo FA, in contrast, had 27 points, 8 wins, 3 draws, and just 1 loss. In the Atlantic Conference, both Young Strikers and Bucknor had ended with 22 points apiece.

Yet, when it mattered most, the team from Ikorodu Oga rose above them all.

A Season for the Ages

Arubinjaga FA’s title run will be remembered not just for the silverware but for the sheer unpredictability and magic of grassroots football. From being the underdog at every stage to lifting the biggest amateur trophy in Lagos State men’s football, their story is a powerful reminder: football is not played on paper; it is lived on the pitch.
