Julianah James made headlines at the Lagos State Football Association Women’s State League as she was crowned the Most Valuable Player following an electrifying performance throughout the season. The dynamic midfielder not only dictated play from the centre of the park but also netted the decisive goal in the final, cementing her place as the league’s standout performer.
Speaking exclusively with Awijare Sports after the final whistle, Julianah shared her excitement and gratitude.

“I feel very, very amazed. It’s our first opportunity, and we made use of it, so I’m very happy about that,” she said with a wide smile.
James was a key figure throughout the tournament. Her calm presence in midfield, ability to pick out incisive passes, and relentless work ethic made her a nightmare for opposing teams. Reflecting on the league itself, she acknowledged the fierce competition and praised the overall quality of the event.
“It was competitive. Every game had that fighting spirit from both teams. You could feel how much the players wanted it,” she explained.

Despite being just her second league experience—her first being the WAFA League—Julianah believes the Lagos State League was a level above.
“The State League is more competitive. There’s a lot more intensity, especially in the Super 4,” she added.
Now, with her MVP title and a state league medal in hand, Julianah is setting her sights higher. Her ambition is clear: to wear the green and white jersey of Nigeria at the international level.

“I want to play for the national team, especially the under-17 side. I’m aiming very high. I’ve always seen myself playing for the country,” she said with conviction.
Grateful for the recognition, she didn’t forget to acknowledge those who helped her along the way.
“I’m very grateful to God Almighty, to my coach, and to my teammates. I’m so glad,” she said in closing.
