It was a day of joy, national pride, and recognition as the Super Falcons of Nigeria received a grand presidential reception in Abuja following their remarkable victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Held at the State House on Monday, the reception was hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who paid glowing tribute to the players and technical crew for their contribution to the nation’s growing football legacy.
The team, who defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic WAFCON final to secure Nigeria’s record 10th continental title, were hailed as beacons of hope and inspiration to millions of Nigerians—especially young girls with dreams of achieving greatness.

Presidential Praise for the Champions
In his address, President Tinubu described the Super Falcons as symbols of resilience and national unity.
“The indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage you displayed lifted the spirit of the entire nation,” the President said. “After that penalty, when I saw 2-1, my spirit was lifted, and I believe that of the nation was lifted too. You have inspired millions.”
He added, “You inspired me too. It is a great thing for a country to have assets like you. You are hope for today, tomorrow, and the future.”

National Honours and Lavish Rewards
In appreciation of their achievement, each of the 24 players and 11 technical crew members were awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)—a prestigious national honour.
That was just the beginning.
Each player will receive:
- A three-bedroom flat in the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate
- A cash award of $100,000 in naira equivalent
Each member of the technical crew will also receive:
- A three-bedroom flat
- A cash award of $50,000 in naira equivalent
President Tinubu concluded his speech by reaffirming his support and admiration for the team.
“Once again, I congratulate you. I will continue to pray for you. My spirit is unyielding and will never die. God bless you.”

Additional Pledge from Governors Forum
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also announced a special gesture from the state governors. He pledged N10 million to each player and crew member on behalf of the Forum.
This additional reward further cements the Super Falcons’ impact not just on sports, but on national consciousness and gender inclusion in athletics.
