Nigeria’s D’Tigress were forced to dig deep to preserve their flawless AfroBasket Women’s Championship record, overcoming a spirited Mozambique side in a dramatic second group-stage encounter.

The Mozambicans came into the tie with something to prove and played with purpose from tip-off. Their energy translated into points as they built a commanding 11-point lead during the third quarter, sending shockwaves through the Nigerian bench and fans alike.

For a moment, it looked like Mozambique were about to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Nigeria, who had not lost a game at the AfroBasket since 2017, found themselves in unfamiliar territory—trailing late into the match.

But true champions know how to respond under pressure.

Led by a more cohesive defensive effort and timely scoring from key players, D’Tigress regrouped and clawed their way back. They turned momentum in their favour in the final quarter, silencing the Mozambique resistance and sealing the win with composure and grit.

The victory not only extends D’Tigress’ impressive unbeaten run but also sends a strong message to other title contenders. Despite being rattled, Nigeria’s resolve remains unshaken.

With the group stages nearing an end, Nigeria will aim to finish top and enter the knockout rounds in dominant form. Their eyes remain firmly set on retaining the AfroBasket crown.
