Agoro Declares 19th Head of Service Games Open as Lagos Public Servants Compete for Glory

The atmosphere was vibrant at the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre, Isheri-Berger, as the Lagos State Government officially flagged off the 19th edition of the Head of Service (HOS) Games. The event was declared open by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, who emphasized the importance of the competition in promoting fitness, wellness, and camaraderie among public servants across the state.

Speaking during the kickoff ceremony, Agoro explained that the annual HOS Games have become more than just a sporting event. They are a platform where government employees build unity, develop discipline, and foster a culture of sportsmanship that reflects the values of service.

“The primary objectives of the HOS Games are to promote physical fitness and mental wellness, while also strengthening the bonds of comradeship among our staff. I urge every participant to play by the rules and uphold discipline at all times,” Agoro stated.

The Head of Service also announced that winners in both the male and female categories would be rewarded with trophies and gift items, adding that the organising committee is already working on a new model to make future editions more innovative and engaging.

Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office and Vice Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government is committed to the well-being of its workforce. She expressed satisfaction with the participation of several agencies and urged more staff members to see the games as a chance to combine exercise with professional bonding.

Another member of the committee, Mr. Richard Ogbe, highlighted that only eligible staff are allowed to participate, while medical teams and security officers are on ground to guarantee safety and order throughout the competition.

The opening day lived up to its billing with thrilling matches. In women’s football, Team Public Service Office (PSO) secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over Team LASUTH, while in the men’s round of 32, LASTMA narrowly edged LASUED with a 1-0 win, while Kosofe lost to LASAA by two goals to four after playin 1-1 at regulation time..

The HOS Games, now in its 19th year, remain a cornerstone of employee engagement in Lagos State, embodying the vision of a healthier and more united public service.
