The city of Port Harcourt will play host to the 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Ms. Modupe Shabi, the high-level gathering will unite club Chairmen, General Managers, and key stakeholders from across the country to discuss the progress, challenges, and future direction of women’s football in Nigeria.

Delegates are expected to arrive in the Rivers State capital on Tuesday, October 28, ahead of the main session the following day. The AGA, described as the league’s most important decision-making platform, will focus on reviewing the previous season’s operations, assessing reforms, and setting the roadmap for sustainable growth in the women’s game.

One of the key highlights of this year’s event will be the announcement of the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership kickoff date and the official Premiership draw, which will determine fixtures for the new season.

Speaking on the upcoming congress, Ms. Shabi expressed optimism that the AGA will foster constructive dialogue among participants.

“The AGA will offer an opportunity for fruitful deliberations as we collectively advance the growth and development of women’s football in Nigeria,” she stated.

She also confirmed that preparations are underway to host all clubs and stakeholders in Port Harcourt for what is expected to be one of the most pivotal sessions in the league’s history.

The meeting comes at a crucial time, as the league gears up for a new chapter following an exciting 2024/2025 campaign that saw Bayelsa Queens claim their sixth Premiership title, emerging victorious at the Super Six held in Ikenne.

Meanwhile, the NWFL has confirmed the promotion of Sunshine Queens (Ondo), Castmog Ladies (Ogun), Ahudiyannem Queens (Abia), and Imo Striker Queens (Imo) to the top-flight division, expanding the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership to 20 teams.

In the Championship, four teams have also earned promotion: Dreamstar Ladies (returnees), Rangers Women (debutants), Rosaria Victrix (debutants), and Solo Wonders (debutants), all set to feature in the 2026 NWFL Championship season.

With the 2025 AGA approaching, the stage is set for critical decisions that will influence the development of women’s football across Nigeria. Port Harcourt’s hosting of this year’s assembly marks not only a celebration of progress but also a commitment to advancing the women’s game at every level.
