The draw for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League group stage has set the stage for another thrilling continental campaign, and Nigeria’s Rivers United have found themselves in a formidable Group A alongside some of Africa’s top football clubs.
The Pride of Rivers will battle Moroccan giants RS Berkane, Egyptian champions Pyramids FC, and Zambian powerhouse Power Dynamos in what promises to be one of the most competitive groups of the season.
Reacting to the draw, Rivers United’s Technical Manager Finidi George described it as “a good draw, but tough.” The former Super Eagles winger acknowledged the quality of opposition but expressed faith in his team’s ability to rise to the challenge.
“We will prepare when the time comes, but for now, we will just concentrate on our league games. When it’s getting closer, we’ll try and prepare the boys mentally for what’s coming ahead,” Finidi said.
He emphasized that the CAF Champions League presents a unique opportunity for his players to test themselves against Africa’s best, noting that the exposure and experience can boost both their confidence and professional growth.
“It’s extra motivation for the players, having this platform on the big stage. It’s going to bring a lot of expectations and confidence. The players are all looking forward to using this opportunity to showcase their abilities,” Finidi added.
