Nigeria’s representatives are fully prepared to begin their quest for regional supremacy at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Zonal Qualifiers scheduled to kick off tomorrow at Stade 04 Aout in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The young Nigerian squad, selected from various secondary schools across the country after a fiercely contested national championship, will compete in Group B. Their opening match comes up on Monday at 11am against Cote d’Ivoire, a side known for their physicality and quick transitional play. It will be a crucial test for the Nigerians who have spent the past week fine tuning their finishing and defensive organisation.

Nigeria will return to action on Tuesday at m when they face the Republic of Benin. The two neighbouring countries have a long footballing history at youth level, and Tuesday’s match promises to deliver intensity, rivalry and fast-paced football.

The tournament format places additional pressure on every game. The winner of Group A will face the runner-up in Group B, while the winner of Group B will meet the second-placed side in Group A. It means that Nigeria cannot afford any slip up in their opening fixtures, as the margins are extremely narrow.
