Agege Local Government has stepped into a defining moment in its political and administrative journey following the official swearing in of Honourable Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa as the substantive Executive Chairman. The historic ceremony, conducted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, took place on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja.
Beyond protocol, the event marked the formal confirmation of a leadership many residents believe had already earned its mandate through performance. Honourable Obasa had assumed office in an acting capacity after the illness and eventual resignation of the former Chairman, Honourable Tunde Azeez Disco. What was expected to be a temporary transition soon became a period of visible momentum in governance.

While administering the oath of office, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Honourable Obasa’s alignment with the T H E M E S Plus development agenda of the state. He noted that Agege continued to record steady growth and community-focused development under his watch, describing the confirmation as a clear reward for competence, consistency and effective grassroots leadership.

The swearing-in ceremony, though brief, carried strong emotional weight. Supporters, associates and well-wishers of the youthful chairman turned out in large numbers, filling the atmosphere with celebration and gratitude. Many openly thanked the Governor for approving the confirmation, describing the moment as a long-awaited validation of hard work and merit.
In his acceptance remarks, an elated Honourable Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa stressed that development in Agege must remain a collective effort. He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the immediate past administration led by the Honourable High Chief Abdulganiyu Egunjobi, Otun Egba of Egbaland, while expanding development initiatives that directly impact the daily lives of residents.
