Chicago Stars FC have taken a decisive step toward strengthening their squad by completing the signing of Nigerian international defender Michelle Alozie from fellow NWSL side Houston Dash. The move, confirmed by the club, sees Chicago send $40,000 in allocation money to Houston in exchange for one of the league’s most consistent and versatile defenders.

Beyond the immediate boost to their roster, the Stars have also secured Alozie’s long-term future by handing her a three-year contract that will keep her in Chicago through the 2028 NWSL season. It is a statement of intent from a club keen to build stability and quality ahead of a new era both on and off the pitch.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Alozie could not hide her excitement about starting a new chapter in her professional career.

“I’m excited to be starting a new chapter with the Stars. I’m looking forward to meeting the team, connecting with them on and off the field, and seeing you fans, both in the city and in the stands. See you very soon, Chicago.”

From Houston Rise to NWSL Mainstay

Alozie’s journey in the NWSL began with Houston Dash in 2021, when she joined the club as a national team replacement player. What started as a short-term opportunity quickly turned into something more permanent, as her performances earned her a full roster spot.

In her rookie season, Alozie featured in four matches and logged 114 minutes, laying the foundation for what would become a steady rise within the league. The 2022 campaign marked her first real breakthrough. She scored two goals in 10 regular season appearances and played an important role as Houston Dash reached the NWSL playoffs for the first time in the club’s history.

That progress carried into 2023, following a contract extension with the Dash. Alozie enjoyed a standout season, finishing as one of Houston’s joint top scorers with four goals. Her ability to contribute going forward while maintaining defensive discipline underlined her value as a modern fullback capable of influencing both ends of the pitch.

She leaves Houston with a solid NWSL record that reflects her consistency and impact. Across 75 regular season appearances, including 33 starts, Alozie registered seven goals and two assists, an impressive return for a player whose primary role is in defense.

A Proven Super Falcons Performer

On the international stage, Michelle Alozie has grown into a reliable figure for Nigeria’s Super Falcons. She earned her first senior call-up, debut cap, and maiden international goal in June 2021, quickly announcing herself as a player ready for the highest level.

Since then, she has accumulated 26 international caps and scored two goals for Nigeria. Her experience includes appearances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, tournaments that further cemented her reputation as a dependable and battle-tested defender on the global stage.

Her combination of club consistency and international pedigree makes her a valuable addition for Chicago Stars as they continue to reshape their squad for sustained success in the NWSL.

A New Era Awaits in Chicago

Alozie is set to fully link up with the Chicago Stars in 2026, a year that also marks a significant milestone for the club. The Stars will move into their new home at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Illinois, signaling the start of an exciting new era.

For Michelle Alozie, the move represents more than just a transfer. It is a fresh opportunity to grow, lead, and contribute to a club with clear ambitions. For Chicago Stars FC, it is the acquisition of a proven performer whose experience, versatility, and winning mentality could make a real difference in the seasons ahead.
