British-Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua has been thrown into deep mourning following a tragic road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two people, including his long-time strength and conditioning coach and a close personal friend.
The devastating crash occurred earlier today along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway and has sent shockwaves through the boxing world and beyond. What was meant to be a peaceful festive holiday in Nigeria ended in heartbreak for the former heavyweight world champion.

According to confirmed reports, Anthony Joshua was travelling in a black Lexus Jeep when the vehicle was involved in a fatal collision near the Sinoma area close to Sagamu in Ogun State. The accident reportedly happened at about 12 noon on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Eyewitnesses and emergency responders revealed that Joshua was pulled from the wreckage and immediately taken to a medical facility. Thankfully the boxer escaped with minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Tragically two people lost their lives in the accident. They were later confirmed to be members of Joshua’s inner circle who had travelled with him to Nigeria for the Christmas holiday.

One of the victims was Sina Evovle, who served as Anthony Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach. Evovle was a key figure behind Joshua’s physical preparation and athletic conditioning over several years and was widely respected within elite boxing circles.
The second victim, popularly known as Healthy Mindset, was a close friend and personal trainer who was regarded as part of Joshua’s trusted inner circle. Both men had reportedly spent time with the boxer earlier in the day relaxing and playing tennis before the tragic incident.
What should have been a moment of rest, bonding and celebration during the festive season turned into an unimaginable loss within hours.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has since released an official statement confirming the cause of the crash. According to the Ogun Sector Command of the FRSC, excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking were responsible for the fatal accident.

In a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC disclosed that the Lexus Jeep conveying Anthony Joshua was travelling at high speed when the driver attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre. The vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a stationary red commercial Sinotruck that was properly parked by the roadside.
The crash involved two vehicles: the Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN and the stationary Sinotruck whose registration number was yet to be identified. A total of five adult males were involved in the accident.

Two persons were confirmed dead at the scene. One person sustained serious injuries, while two others, including Anthony Joshua, escaped with minor injuries.
Ogungbemide stated that the FRSC received a distress call shortly after the incident and deployed emergency operatives to the scene within three minutes. This rapid response ensured the rescue of victims, evacuation of the injured, traffic control and prevention of secondary crashes.
The injured victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Livewell Mortuary, Ajaka Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has also been notified to conduct further investigations and official documentation.
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the injured survivor a speedy recovery.

The FRSC also used the opportunity to reiterate its warning to motorists, especially during the festive period, urging road users to avoid speeding, unsafe overtaking and reckless driving on high-speed corridors such as the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway.
Anthony Joshua has not only lost trusted members of his professional team but also close companions who were part of his daily life and personal journey. The boxing community fans and well-wishers across the world have continued to send messages of support, prayers and condolences as the heavyweight icon navigates this painful moment.
