NWFL: Adamawa Queens prepare for Ekiti Queens

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) returns this midweek with a fresh wave of anticipation as nine fixtures take centre stage across the country. From Ibadan to the Federal Capital Territory, and from Akure to Lafia, the league continues to deliver intensity, unpredictability, and moments that define careers and seasons.

Following a dramatic previous round, especially in Group B, where unexpected results reshaped the standings, fans of the women’s game, including followers of the Super Falcons, are bracing for another compelling chapter.

With some Super Six spots nearly settled in certain groups, attention is gradually shifting toward positioning, pride and survival as teams battle to either finish strong or avoid dropping.

Adamawa Queens vs Ekiti Queens

This fixture revisits a tightly contested reverse encounter in Ado Ekiti, where both sides settled for a 1-1 draw. Mary Sunday had given Adamawa Queens the lead before a late own goal by Favour Godwin rescued a point for Ekiti.

Nine matches later, Adamawa Queens sit fourth with 13 points while Ekiti Queens occupy sixth with 10 points. Momentum slightly favours Ekiti after their victory over Heartland Queens in Abeokuta, while Adamawa suffered a setback against the Ibom Angels in Uyo.

With Super Six hopes fading for both sides, the focus now shifts to securing respectable finishes and avoiding any late-season collapse.

Pacesetters Queens vs Ibom Angels

Fresh from a morale-boosting victory over Adamawa Queens, Pacesetters Queens return home with renewed belief. Their performance last time out has instilled confidence in a team fighting to escape relegation waters.

Helen Daniel decided the reverse fixture late, as her 87th-minute strike secured a narrow win for Ibom Angels.

For the Oluyole-based side, this is more than just three points. It is about survival. Another win could spark a late resurgence, while defeat would deepen their struggles in the standings.

Heartland Queens vs Edo Queens

This clash pits resilience against form. Heartland Queens welcome an Edo Queens side brimming with confidence after dismantling the defending champions 4-1 in their last outing.

Yet, Heartland has built a reputation for rising to big occasions. Their memorable 3-1 victory over Bayelsa Queens earlier in the season remains a reminder that they can upset any team on their day.

Edo Queens claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture thanks to leading scorer Atume Doosuur. Another tight contest is expected, but Heartland’s home advantage could prove decisive.

Naija Ratels vs Rivers Angels

On paper, this appears the most straightforward fixture of the round. The Naija Ratels remain rooted at the bottom and have struggled for consistency all season.

Rivers Angels, one of Nigeria’s most decorated women’s teams, come into this match well rested after a bye week and significantly stronger than when both sides first met.

That earlier encounter ended 1-0 courtesy of Sharon. Onwere, but the gap between both teams has widened since then. Anything short of a Rivers Angels victory would be considered a major upset.

Confluence Queens vs FC Robo Queens

Group B continues to defy expectations, and this fixture captures its unpredictability perfectly. Confluence Queens shocked many with an away win over Abia Angels last matchday.

The question now is which version of Confluence will show up. The side that stunned in Aba or the one that struggled heavily in previous games.

League leaders FC Robo Queens started the season strongly but have looked less convincing in recent weeks, alternating between narrow wins and surprising defeats.

Their earlier meeting ended in a dominant 4-0 win for Robo Queens, powered by a brace from Kemi Adegbuyi. Replicating that performance away from home will not be easy.

Abia Angels vs Remo Stars Ladies

Both teams enter this fixture wounded after disappointing home defeats. Abia Angels fell to Confluence Queens, while Remo Stars Ladies were stunned by Ahudiyannem’s queens.

This match carries huge Super Six implications. Victory keeps hopes alive, while defeat could prove costly in the race for qualification.

Aisha Animashaun’s early strike settled the reverse fixture, giving Remo Stars Ladies a narrow win. With so much at stake, expect a tense and tactical battle.

Sunshine Queens vs Delta Queens

A classic mid-table encounter, Sunshine Queens and Delta Queens are separated by just a point and occupy fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Despite managerial changes, Delta Queens have struggled to establish a consistent rhythm, and their trip to Akure presents a formidable challenge. Sunshine Queens have turned their home ground into a difficult venue even for top sides.

Their earlier meeting in Asaba ended goalless, but both teams will be eager to provide more attacking spark this time around.

Ahudiyannem Queens vs Osun Babes

This fixture tells the story of two contrasting trajectories. Ahudiyannem Queens appear to be on the rise after a morale-lifting win over Remo Stars Ladies.

Osun Babes, on the other hand, have been plagued by off-field challenges ranging from financial issues to managerial instability. These problems have reflected in their performances as they continue to slide down the table.

The reverse fixture saw Osun Babes claim a late 1-0 win through Nofisat Tijani’s penalty. This time, however, the momentum favours Ahudiyannem Queens, who could deepen Osun’s struggles.

Nasarawa Amazons vs Dannaz Ladies

The earlier meeting between these two sides ended goalless in Lagos but was one of Dannaz Ladies’ most impressive displays of the season.

Since then, their paths have diverged. Nasarawa Amazons have surged into second place with 19 points, establishing themselves as genuine contenders.

Dannaz Ladies, meanwhile, sit seventh with 10 points and remain locked in a relegation battle.

For Nasarawa, victory strengthens their title push. For Dannaz, it could serve as the crucial boost they require to overcome their current predicament.

A Defining Week in the NWFL

As the league edges closer to its decisive phase, every point now carries greater weight. For some, it is about chasing glory and securing a Super Six place. For others, it is about survival and rebuilding.

What remains certain is that the NWFL continues to grow in quality, intensity, and national relevance, serving as a crucial pipeline for talented players who may soon wear the colours of the Super Falcons on a global stage.
