Inter Lagos Stay Top Despite Bye

Inter Lagos did not feature during the matchday 13 fixtures, but their place at the top of Group A remained intact thanks to a slip from their closest challengers Beyond Limit FA.

Beyond Limit FA had the opportunity to leapfrog Inter Lagos when they faced Edel FC at the Remo Stars Stadium. However, the encounter ended in a 1–1 draw, allowing Inter Lagos to maintain their narrow advantage on the table.

Beyond Limit FA took the lead in the 56th minute when Mark Akpabio reacted quickest after the Edel FC goalkeeper spilt a shot, stabbing the loose ball home to put the hosts ahead.

Their advantage lasted just thirteen minutes. Edel FC fought their way back into the match with a well-worked equaliser that ensured both teams shared the spoils.

One of the standout performers in the game was Edel FC goalkeeper Josiah Adams. The shot stopper delivered a remarkable display between the posts, making seven point-blank saves to deny Beyond Limit FA on several occasions and preserve a vital point for his side.

After the match, Inter Lagos and Beyond Limit FA share a tie with 24 points. Inter Lagos remain top of Group A due to their superior goal difference of +13 compared to Beyond Limit FA’s +8.

Key Matchday 14 Battles Loom in Group A

The upcoming round of fixtures could significantly alter the standings.

Inter Lagos will host Heartland FC, who currently sit third in the group and remain firmly in the promotion conversation. Meanwhile Beyond Limit FA face a tricky trip to Ogbomosho, where they will meet Crown FC in what promises to be a fiercely contested Southwest derby.

Akwa United Secure Important Win Over Sporting Lagos

In Group B, Akwa United produced a disciplined performance to secure a valuable 1–0 victory against promotion rivals Sporting Lagos.

The visitors started the match brightly, pressing high and attempting to dictate possession in the opening minutes. However, the home side gradually settled into the contest under the guidance of coach Paul Offor and began to impose themselves on the game.

Akwa United created several promising opportunities in the first half. Churchill Nnana almost broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when he met a corner kick with a header that narrowly missed the target.

In the 26th minute, Esonwanne Gift attempted an audacious chip over the goalkeeper, but the Sporting Lagos shot stopper reacted well to keep the effort out. Daniel Gothom attempted a long-range shot just two minutes later, but the goalkeeper comfortably handled his effort.

Gothom continued to threaten in the 30th minute when he unleashed a powerful volley, but a defender intervened to block the strike before the goalkeeper gathered the ball.

The decisive moment arrived in the 32nd minute when Akwa United were awarded a penalty after a Sporting Lagos defender handled a cross inside the box. Charles Etim stepped forward and calmly converted the spot kick in the 34th minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give his side the lead.

Akwa United thought they had doubled their advantage shortly afterwards. In the 36th minute, Ndifreke Etim fired the ball into the net during a goalmouth scramble, but the referee ruled the goal out for infringement in the buildup.

The hosts maintained their one-goal advantage heading into the break and continued pushing in the second half. Aniebiet Sunday forced a good save in the 47th minute after finding space in the area, while Ndifreke Etim produced another impressive run in the 50th minute before seeing his effort denied by the goalkeeper.

Despite the pressure, Sporting Lagos could not find an equaliser.

The defeat means Sporting Lagos remains second on the Group B table with 24 points. In the next round of fixtures, they will host Rovers FC while Akwa United travel to face Godswill Akpabio United in Uyo.

With only a few matches remaining, the group could potentially be decided as early as matchday 15.

Doma United Strengthen Grip on Group C

In the Northern Conference Group C, Doma United travelled to Ilorin and secured a valuable 1–1 draw against ABS FC.

ABS opened the scoring early in the fifth minute and maintained their lead until half time.

Doma United showed resilience after the break and eventually found the equaliser in the 73rd minute. Central defender Philemon Bitrus produced a spectacular long-range strike that stunned the home crowd and could easily be considered one of the standout goals of the matchday.

The result solidifies Doma United’s position at the top of the group with 23 points. Their closest challengers, FC Basira, remain on 18 points after suffering a defeat against Sokoto United over the weekend.

Doma United will host Mighty Jets in their next fixture, while FC Basira welcome ABS FC to their home ground.

Yobe Desert Stars Take Control in Group D

Group D also witnessed a change at the summit.

Yobe Desert Stars moved into first place after a convincing 3–0 victory against Jigawa Golden Stars.

Bichi First FC held Ranchers Bees of Kaduna to a 1-1 draw, paving the way for Yobe Desert Stars’ ascent to the top.

Yobe Desert Stars now lead the group with 19 points. However, the situation remains delicate as they have played more matches than several of their rivals and will be on bye next weekend.

Ranchers Bees have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot when they host Kebbi United in a potentially crucial encounter in the race for qualification.
