Abia Warriors defeated Enugu Rangers 1-0 in Umuahia on Monday evening in the Matchweek 10 of the 2020/21 NPFL campaign.

Paul Samson scored the only goal of the game for the Warriors in the 23rd minute with a beautiful curler from outside the box.

The hosts had Daniel Wotlia harshly sent off in the 58th minute after a challenge which left head coach Imama Amapakabo puzzled.

“I knew that this game was going to be a highly tactical game. Kudos to the boys, they where able to keep shape and we won 1-0,” the Warriors manager said after the match.

Amapakabo admitted that after the red card ‘we had to reorganize’ and that it influenced his substitutions.

“We had worked very hard for moments like this. And kudos to the boys I think they came big by holding grounds. Even when we kept a very low line they where still able to keep their heads in it.

“When the red card came I had to look at my bench. I had to look at the personnel I had.

“It changed our tactical approach completely. I wanted to make some other changes but then I think the red card was what informed whatever changes that I must have made thereafter.”

On their next match vs Warri Wolves on Sunday, 21 February, he said: “Every game is different. The warri Wolves tie would definitely be a different game tactically.
