Super Falcons are currently in Turkey for an invitational tournament and team captain Asisat Oshoala expressed her excitement at being able to get back with the team once again.

“It’s been interesting working with the new coach so far, we spoke on the phone a lot and now we met in person and worked on the pitch together. It’s a very good feeling being with the girls again after like two years apart, an interesting period it is,” she said.

“We hope we can do better but at the end of the day we’re happy to be together again and to be able to compete with other countries and clubs. Hopefully it continues after this, where we get more camping and competitions to prepare us for the African Women Championship which is our next big tournament sometime next year,” Asisat added.

On the teams chances to win the title in Turkey, she said to Sports247 correspondent that they really are not gunning for the title. “The Turkish cup, we’ll do our best to see if we can win it but honestly the goal is not to win it but to make sure the team is getting back in shape together and for sure we’ll give our best on the pitch. If we can win it, we’ll win it. It’s 3 games and we’ll go all out for each game and I’m sure the coach will have opportunities to get in more players for he next camping and it’s just the first stage in 2021, hopefully it gets better,” she said.

On a personal front as the captain of the team, she’s also looking to do her best to work with the teammates and the sports federation in the country to aid the teams preparations.
“I just want to make sure the team is together and they get whatever they deserve. Try to speak to the federation and get more of this kind of tournament for us, utilize every international break and make sure the team gets to compete with the best of the world. Hopefully the team will get better and hopefully welfare gets better also,” she said.

Asisat thanked the fans, supporters of the team, the federation for pulling this tournament for them and hoped that it doesn’t stop but gets better.
