The highly anticipated Lagos State League, organized by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), is set to commence next Wednesday across five divisions in the state. With excitement building, the league’s management has sent a clear and firm message to all participating teams: failure to honour matches without a valid excuse will lead to instant relegation.

A total of 14 male teams have been divided into two groups, while 10 female teams will also compete in two groups. As teams prepare for kickoff, LSFA has emphasized discipline, fairness, and commitment throughout the competition.

Speaking at the official draw held on Wednesday morning at the LSFA headquarters, Wale Joseph, The CEO of the State League Management Committee, made it clear that teams must abide by the rules.

“It is completely unacceptable for any team to fail to honour its matches without a valid reason. Any team found guilty of this will face automatic relegation. We will not tolerate indiscipline,” Joseph stated firmly.

He urged teams to respect the integrity of the league and follow all rules and regulations to ensure a smooth and competitive tournament.

Backing Joseph’s stance, LSFA Chairman, Olawale Liameed Gafar, reinforced the need for discipline and professionalism among participating teams.

“Teams that fail to show up for their matches will not only be relegated but will also face disciplinary actions. This is a serious competition, and we expect teams to take it seriously,” Gafar warned.

Beyond match attendance, Gafar stressed the importance of good conduct both on and off the pitch, highlighting that professionalism could attract potential sponsors and investors to the league.

“We want to create a league that will grow in reputation and attract sponsors. Players and coaches must behave responsibly and uphold the values of sportsmanship,” he added.

In addition to adherence to the rules, Gafar encouraged all teams to shun violence, respect referees’ decisions, and embrace the true spirit of sportsmanship. He cautioned against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that any act of indiscipline will be dealt with accordingly.

As the Lagos State League prepares for kickoff, the LSFA remains committed to upholding the integrity of the game, ensuring that players, coaches, and supporters represent their clubs with pride, discipline, and respect.

Football fans in Lagos can now look forward to an exciting and competitive season!
