Marriage is often seen as a beautiful bond, but it’s a journey that requires more than just love to keep it intact. When I first stood at the altar and said, “I do,” I envisioned forever—giving my heart, my time, and all of myself to building a life together. But somewhere along the way, things began to shift. The reality of life and its challenges crept in, and what once felt unbreakable started to crack.

People often ask me, “What happened?” The truth is, relationships are a delicate balance, requiring effort, communication, and mutual commitment. When one side stops giving, when the effort becomes lopsided, it becomes nearly impossible to hold on to what was once so strong. I fought hard for my marriage and poured my energy into it, but eventually, I realised I was losing myself in the process. Staying felt like a sacrifice of my own peace, my own identity.

Leaving was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It wasn’t a decision I made lightly, but in that moment, I understood that for me to be whole again, I had to walk away. It was a painful choice, one that weighed heavily on my heart, but it was the right one—for my well-being.

Yet, life has a way of surprising us. Time passed, and with it, change. My husband, once unaware of the depths of my pain, began to show me that he was willing to evolve, to work on himself, and to fight for the love we once had. Seeing his transformation, his genuine desire to be a better man, stirred something in me. It wasn’t easy, but I found the strength to trust again.

Today, we stand stronger. We’ve learnt, we’ve grown, and we’re more committed to each other than ever before. Our marriage isn’t perfect, but it’s ours—built on effort, understanding, and the belief that we can overcome whatever comes our way.
