Chioma Cynthia Nweke has etched her name into the history books once again, delivering a commanding performance to win the women’s 200m gold medal at the ongoing National Sports Festival (Gateway Games) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Representing Team Delta, Nweke ran a near-flawless race, keeping her composure through the bend before turning on the jets down the final stretch. She powered away from the competition in the last 40 meters to finish first in 23.58 seconds (unofficial), reaffirming her status as one of Nigeria’s most exciting sprint talents.

Battle Behind the Champion
Trailing her was Sophia Efetobore of Team Bayelsa, who maintained strong form throughout the race but couldn’t catch Nweke’s explosive finish. Efetobore secured silver, holding her ground under pressure from the chasing pack.
The bronze medal went to Faith Chukwuma (also of Delta State), who edged past Tejiri Ugoh in a tightly contested finish to grab the final podium spot. It was a race full of drama, energy, and young Nigerian talent on full display.
