The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners’ Forum and the League Management have set the stage for a new chapter in Nigerian football. At a landmark meeting held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hotel De Bentley in Abuja, key decisions and far-reaching resolutions were reached to enhance the league’s future.

The meeting, which brought together the chairmen of NPFL clubs and the leadership of the League, was more than a gathering—it was a show of unity and commitment to the growth of football in Nigeria.

A Vote of Confidence in Football Leadership
One of the meeting’s highlights was the unanimous vote of confidence in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau. The Forum recognized the Federation’s unwavering dedication to the development and expansion of the game nationwide.

The NPFL leadership was also lauded. Chief Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the League Board, and Prince Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer, earned praise for their steadfast efforts and professionalism in managing the league’s affairs.

Equally, the leadership of the NPFL Club Owners’ Forum, under Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu, was commended for its dynamic stewardship and proactive role in promoting unity among clubs.

Celebrating a Successful 2024/2025 NPFL Season
The 2024/2025 NPFL season received high marks. The Forum described it as one of the best-organized seasons in recent memory, characterized by improved matchday arrangements, adherence to fixtures, and operational excellence across the board.

New Amendments and Forward-Looking Initiatives
A significant outcome of the meeting was the approval of key amendments to the NPFL Framework and Rules. These include:

  • Enhanced life and injury insurance schemes for players and officials, prioritizing their well-being.
  • Improved post-match conference protocols designed to elevate media engagement and professionalism in league reporting.

Saluting Champions and Continental Representatives
The Forum extended heartfelt congratulations to Remo Stars FC, winners of the 2024/2025 NPFL season. Applause also went to Rivers United and Abia Warriors for clinching Nigeria’s slots in the CAF Interclub competitions. Club administrators were urged to begin preparations for these continental campaigns to elevate Nigeria’s profile on the global football stage.

Security remains a top priority. The Forum stressed the crucial role of State Football Associations in maintaining safe and secure matchday environments for fans and players alike.
