History is unfolding once again for Nigerian refereeing as Akintoye Eunice Yemisi arrived safely in Casablanca, Morocco, to take her place among the top officials selected for the prestigious TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025.
Yemisi’s flight, operated by Royal Air Maroc, departed from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 6:50 a.m. and touched down at Mohammed V International Airport at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, June 29. By noon, she had officially arrived in the heart of Morocco, ready to begin her WAFCON journey.

The 2025 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will run from July 5 to July 26, featuring a top-tier lineup of 18 referees, 18 assistant referees, and 10 video match officials (VMOs) from across the continent. Akintoye Yemisi’s inclusion is a testament to her consistent performance, discipline, and rising reputation on the international refereeing stage.
Today, June 30, all selected officials will begin a mandatory pre-tournament refresher course, which is designed to prepare them for upcoming matches and to align them with the latest changes in FIFA’s Laws of the Game, officially taking effect from July 1, 2025.

Akintoye Yemisi now becomes part of an elite group of Nigerian female referees who have represented the country at WAFCON. Her name joins the ranks of Bola Abidoye, Adeola Adeyemi, Mimise Iyorhe, and Ndidi Patience Madu, who have all carried the whistle with pride on the continental stage.
Her journey not only marks personal progress but also reflects the growing recognition of Nigerian officials in international competitions.
