The Super Falcons of Nigeria sent a strong message to their continental rivals on Sunday with a commanding 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens in an international friendly tagged the Jollof Derby. Played in Casablanca, Morocco, the game served as a preparatory clash for both nations ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
From kickoff, the match lived up to its billing as one of Africa’s most passionate rivalries. But it was Nigeria who dominated with clinical finishing, composed buildup play, and solid defending. The victory not only maintains Nigeria’s unbeaten record in 2025, it also highlights the team’s depth, form, and hunger for continental glory.

The early stages were a midfield chess match, with both sides showing tactical discipline. However, the deadlock was broken in the 34th minute by Chiwendu Ihezuo, whose deflected strike put the Super Falcons ahead. The Pachuca striker’s goal, her second for Nigeria, was a statement of intent and set the pace for the game.

The second half resumed with Nigeria showing even more intent. By the 51st minute, Rasheedat Ajibade made it 3-0 with a composed finish after a sweeping team move. The attacking midfielder, recently of Atletico Madrid, continues to prove why she is one of Africa’s most lethal forwards.
Ghana’s Black Queens struggled to find answers as Nigeria maintained control across the pitch. Their only response came late in the 88th minute, when Alice Kusi converted a penalty to give Ghana a consolation goal.

This win further cements the Super Falcons’ status as Africa’s top-ranked women’s national team, according to the latest FIFA rankings. More importantly, the team looks sharp and ready for WAFCON 2024, with key players like Ajibade, Oshoala, and Ihezuo finding rhythm at just the right time.
