In the heart of Mushin, Lagos, a football visionary quietly shapes the future of Nigerian women’s football. Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa, popularly known as The Oracle, is not just the owner and head coach of FC Robo Queens; he’s a father figure, talent scout, and dream builder.

For two decades, Osahon has done what many with bigger budgets have failed to do: sustain a women’s football club and consistently produce elite talent. His grassroots philosophy has paid off, with several of his players starring on the world stage. Just like the proverbial hen that lays the golden eggs, four of his protégés—Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Oladipo Shukurat—are in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), a feat that underscores his legendary influence.

“I’ve been running FC Robo International Soccer Academy for over 20 years,” Coach Emmanuel Osahon shared. “We’ve been a consistent presence in the Nigeria Women Football League for the past 13 years. That’s not even counting our earlier spell, when we first gained promotion and played two seasons but were relegated due to late registration.”

In an exclusive interview with Awijare Sports, Osahon shared his thoughts on the Super Falcons, the NWFL’s challenges, and his vision for a stronger football future.

Super Falcons and the WAFCON Dream

What’s your expectation for the Super Falcons at WAFCON?

“To win the WAFCON Cup successfully,” Osahon stated confidently, voicing the hopes of millions of Nigerian fans.

Squad Selection and Disappointments

There have been controversies around the squad list. What are your thoughts?

“The coaches have the final say, but I personally miss Monday Gift. She brings something unique to the game.”

NWFL Representation at WAFCON

Do you feel the Nigerian Women’s Football League was well represented in the squad?

“Not really,” he responded. “There are talents across different NWFL clubs that should have been considered, but coaches see things differently.”

Nigeria’s Threats at the Tournament

Which teams pose the biggest threat to Nigeria’s ambitions?

“The host country will always be a major threat. Playing at home gives them a huge edge.”

On the NWFL Board’s Voluntary Exit

What’s your view on the NWFL board stepping down mid-season?

“They’re in the best position to explain. But leaving the season inconclusive, especially with the Championship undecided, wasn’t fair. Even though their tenure had ended, the season should have been completed. Governance is never easy.”

Board Performance and Future Advice

How would you rate the outgoing NWFL board overall?

“There were many lapses this season. They could have done better.”

What’s your advice to the NFF when appointing new board members?

“The federation must appoint people who are passionate about women’s football and are selfless in service.”

Anyone in particular you’d recommend?

“I won’t mention names, but I know there are genuine, capable people out there who care deeply about the growth of the women’s game.”

A Legacy Beyond the Pitch

Osahon’s story is one of perseverance, purpose, and passion. From the streets of Mushin to mentoring world-class talents, he proves that you don’t need massive resources to build something meaningful; just vision, grit, and belief.

As Nigeria kicks off its WAFCON campaign, The Oracle’s silent legacy will be present on the pitch through the players he nurtured, a reminder that sometimes the greatest impact begins at home.
