The Nationwide League One (NLO) Playoff at the Ijebu Ode centre delivered another nail-biting finish as Ikorodu City Football Academy edged Lekki United with a dramatic 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

In a fixture that saw the winners of Legacy Pitch 1 and Maracana Pitch 2 face off, expectations were high, but chances were few and far between in a tightly contested match. Both teams struggled to find a breakthrough throughout regular time, and it seemed destined to end in a goalless draw.

But just when spectators were preparing for a stalemate, Musa Malik emerged as the hero for Ikorodu City.

In the third minute of added time, a free kick was awarded 12 metres away from Lekki United’s box. Malik stepped up with composure and struck a perfectly placed shot that nestled into the back of the net. The goal sent the Ikorodu bench into wild celebrations as it sealed all three points in what had been a tense and tactical affair.

With the win, Ikorodu City moves to second on the group standings, behind Magic Stars FC who earlier defeated Franceex United 2-1 in the day’s opening game.

The playoff is heating up, and tomorrow’s fixtures will shape the promotional battle. Ikorodu City are set to clash with current group leaders Magic Stars FC in what promises to be a top-of-the-table showdown.
