The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Cup following a commanding 4-1 victory over Benin Republic in their second Group B match held in Ghana.

After sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Ghana in their tournament opener, Nigeria needed a result to stay on track. And while the first half ended evenly matched at 1-1, the second half revealed a different side of Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s boys — sharp, relentless, and ruthlessly efficient.

Powered by goals from Muhammed Abdullahi, Ezekiel Kpangu, Imrana Muhammed, and Abduljeleel Kamaldeen, the Flying Eagles produced an emphatic response to any early nerves. The fluidity in attack and composure in front of goal saw Nigeria net three unanswered goals in the second half, leaving the Young Cheetahs unable to respond.

The win not only handed Nigeria their first victory of the competition but also secured them a spot in the last four. With four points from two matches, they currently top Group B and await the outcome of other results to confirm their semifinal opponents.

Coach Aliyu Zubairu praised the team’s tactical discipline and mentality post-match. “We knew the importance of this game. The boys showed character and executed the plan perfectly,” he said.

This performance marks a significant turning point in Nigeria’s WAFU B U20 campaign. Beyond the result, the nature of the win has reignited belief among fans and stakeholders that the Flying Eagles are poised to reclaim regional dominance.

The team now shifts focus to the knockout phase, where stiffer tests await. But with their attack finally clicking and confidence growing, Nigeria looks like a side ready to go the distance.
