The Lagos football community has welcomed back a familiar face as Mr. Akeem Rabiu-Okikioposu, the immediate past Secretary of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), has been unanimously elected as a board member of the Association.

In a bye-election organized to fill a vacant seat on the LSFA board, Mr. Okikioposu received a clean sweep of votes from all congress members, reaffirming the trust and confidence stakeholders have in his leadership and administrative capacity.

The election, which was supervised by the Chairman of the LSFA Electoral Committee, Alhaji Tijani Azeez, took place in Lagos and was marked by a spirit of sportsmanship. The only other candidate, Mr. Musbau Oseni, stepped down for Okikioposu, allowing the process to conclude peacefully and with broad consensus.

Following his election, Mr. Okikioposu was formally sworn in by Barrister Ibidoyin Aina. The newly elected board member, who had previously served as the LSFA Secretary for 10 years before his transfer to the Lagos State Athletics Federation a few months ago, expressed gratitude to the congress and all football stakeholders in Lagos.

“I give glory to God Almighty for making me witness this day,” Okikioposu told Awijare News after his swearing-in. “I never planned this, but it’s the will of God. I saw an opportunity and decided to take advantage of it. I’m so glad for the overwhelming support from the congress members who deemed me worthy to be voted for as a Board Member. I’m highly grateful to the entire FA Board.”

Okikioposu, who also served as Secretary of the Ikeja Divisional Football Association for three years, commended his opponent for his show of sportsmanship and promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the development and growth of football in Lagos and across Nigeria.

He emphasized that his return to the board marks a renewed commitment to strengthening the structures that support grassroots football and youth talent development in the state.

“This is an opportunity for me to serve in another capacity,” he said. “I’m fully committed to contributing my quota to the continuous growth of football in Lagos State and Nigeria.”
