The race for the football crown at the Obasa Games 2025 has officially entered its most decisive stage. After a weekend of tension, late drama and remarkable resilience, four outstanding teams have secured their places in the semifinals. Futurestars99 FC of Igando, SBS FA of Agege, Goal Getters FC of Surulere and Vinod FA of Agege will now battle for a chance to play in the grand finale of a tournament that continues to showcase grassroots brilliance across Lagos.

This year’s competition has been fiercely contested, but the journey to the last four was anything but straightforward. On Saturday afternoon, Ace Marines FC of Gbagada looked destined for a semifinal ticket after racing to a two-goal lead. However, they lost their grip on the match as Futurestars99 FC staged an incredible comeback and forced a penalty shootout. The Igando side sealed their place with a dramatic five-to-four victory from the spot, sending their supporters into celebrations.

The same day produced another impressive performance as SBS FA of Agege controlled the tempo, absorbed pressure when necessary and defeated Spartan FC with a well-deserved two-to-nil victory. The Agege team continued to prove why they are one of the most consistent outfits in the competition.

On Sunday, Goal Getters FC of Surulere delivered a composed and clinical two-to-nil win over FC Victory of Ikorodu. Their discipline in both halves ensured that they remained untroubled throughout the encounter. The Surulere boys have quietly built momentum and might be the most balanced team heading into the semifinal round.

The last quarterfinal fixture brought the entire community in Agege to a standstill. In a clash between two of the best teams in the district, Hepzibah Sports and Vinod FA produced a spectacle worthy of the knockout stage. Hepzibah came into the match as one of the tournament favourites, having impressed from the group phase. But Vinod FA refused to be intimidated. In a thrilling contest decided by small details and unrelenting hunger, Vinod FA emerged victorious with a three-to-two win that underlined their determination to go all the way.

The semifinal fixtures will now take centre stage on Tuesday and Wednesday. Futurestars99 FC will face SBS FA in the first semifinal, where both sides will attempt to stamp their authority early. The second semifinal between Goal Getters FC and Vinod FA will follow on Wednesday in what promises to be a tactical and emotional encounter.

The third-place match is scheduled for Thursday, while the grand finale will take place on Saturday, the 13th of December. With a total prize pool of six million naira waiting to be shared by the medal winners, every remaining match promises to be fiercely contested. But beyond the prize money, the prestige of lifting the Obasa Games trophy remains the ultimate motivation.

The journey has been long. The competition has been intense. Now, the final four must rise to the moment. Lagos is watching, and the Obasa Games 2025 football event is entering its most dramatic chapter yet.
