Nigeria Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has completed a return to the Mexican Liga MX Femenil after sealing a deal with Cruz Azul Women, opening another defining chapter in her widely travelled professional career.

The move signals more than just a transfer. It reinforces the growing reputation of Nigerian footballers within one of the most competitive women’s leagues in the world. Liga MX Femenil continues to attract elite African talent, and Kanu’s arrival further strengthens that narrative.

Cruz Azul Women are banking on Kanu’s experience, pace, and sharp attacking instincts to inject quality into their frontline. Known for her intelligent movement and ability to exploit space, the Nigerian forward arrives with a profile shaped by years of competing across different football cultures.

Kanu is no stranger to Mexican football. She previously featured for Tigres UANL Women, one of the league’s most dominant sides, where she gained firsthand experience of the intensity, tactical discipline, and technical demands that define Liga MX Femenil. That familiarity is expected to ease her transition and allow her to make an immediate impact.

Her signing also adds to a growing Super Falcons presence in Mexico. Nigerian internationals Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo are already established figures at C.F. Pachuca Women, while other Nigerian players continue to leave their mark across the league. Together, they represent a visible and influential Nigerian footprint in Mexican women’s football.

Across her career, Kanu has built an impressive résumé that reflects both ambition and adaptability. She has played for Pensacola FC Women in the United States, Sevilla FC Women in Spain, Linköping FC in Sweden, Tigres UANL Women in Mexico, and Racing Louisville FC in the National Women’s Soccer League. That range of experience has shaped her into a forward capable of adjusting quickly to new systems while maintaining a consistent threat in attack.

For Cruz Azul Women, the signing underlines their ambition to compete at a higher level within Liga MX Femenil. Bringing in a player of Kanu’s pedigree signals intent and belief in building a squad capable of challenging more established sides.
