Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has delivered a powerful leadership message to his teammates as Nigeria prepares for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-final clash against Algeria, urging the squad to remain focused despite delays in bonus payments.

Speaking to the players and technical crew in Fez on Wednesday, the Leicester City midfielder addressed the lingering issue of unpaid bonuses that has hovered around the camp since the group stage. Rather than allow the situation to disrupt preparations, Ndidi took full responsibility, reassuring the team that performance on the pitch must remain the priority.

According to Ndidi, distractions off the pitch cannot be allowed to derail the Super Eagles at a critical stage of the tournament. He revealed that he has consistently encouraged the squad to keep training with intensity and mental sharpness, stressing that Nigeria’s ambition at AFCON 2025 must come before any administrative issues.

The Super Eagles captain went a step further by making a remarkable personal commitment. Ndidi disclosed that he has promised both players and members of the coaching staff that he would personally cover the outstanding bonuses if the authorities fail to do so before Saturday’s quarter-final encounter against Algeria.

Ndidi explained that his message to the team was clear and direct. The focus must remain on preparing properly for Algeria, a side known for their tactical discipline and tournament pedigree. He emphasized that unity, professionalism and sacrifice are essential if Nigeria is to progress further in the competition.

Since the second group match of the tournament, Ndidi said he has been pushing the team to maintain momentum and sharpen their focus ahead of the knockout stages. His intervention reflects a captain determined to shield his teammates from distractions while setting a strong example of leadership and accountability.

The Super Eagles head into the quarter-final with confidence following a solid run in the group stage, but the Algeria fixture represents their toughest test so far. With Ndidi’s leadership resonating in camp, Nigeria will hope that unity off the pitch translates into composure and authority on it.

As AFCON 2025 reaches its decisive phase, Ndidi’s stance has earned widespread admiration, reinforcing his status not just as a midfield anchor but as a leader willing to put the collective first. All eyes now turn to Saturday, when the Super Eagles take on Algeria with a place in the semifinals at stake.
