The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal road accident involving global boxing icon Anthony Joshua, which occurred on Monday, December 29, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement released from his office, Hon. Adeboye described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that it cast a shadow over the global sports community. While thanking God for the survival of Anthony Joshua, the presidential aide mourned the tragic loss of Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, who lost their lives in the crash.

“This is a painful moment, not just for Anthony Joshua and his immediate family, but for the entire sports world,” Adeboye said.

“We thank God for sparing Anthony Joshua’s life, but we are deeply saddened by the loss of two dedicated professionals whose commitment to excellence helped shape a world champion.”

Adeboye commended the swift show of empathy demonstrated by the leadership of the National Sports Commission, noting the visit by the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, to Anthony Joshua on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the entire Nigerian sports family.

According to the SSA, the tragedy is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of safety beyond the field of play.

“As sports administrators and stakeholders, we must continue to advocate for safety, responsibility, and care for one another. Lives matter beyond medals, titles, and accolades,” he added.

Hon. Adeboye extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

He also wished Anthony Joshua a full and speedy recovery, urging Nigerians and sports lovers around the world to keep him and the bereaved families in their thoughts and prayers.
