Delta Queens Football Club of Asaba have taken a decisive step toward reigniting their competitive edge in the Nigeria Women Football League with the appointment of Coach Stanley Osazee as Head Coach, signalling a renewed push for dominance at the top level of Nigerian women’s football.
The new technical direction was formally unveiled on Monday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, in a ceremony presided over by the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori. The Commission described Osazee’s appointment as a strategic intervention designed to strengthen the club’s technical structure, stabilise performances, and reposition Delta Queens among the elite contenders in the NWFL.

According to Oborevwori, the decision reflects the Commission’s belief that progress in modern football is built on constant improvement rather than past achievements. He stressed that while Delta Queens boast a proud history of league titles and FA Cup successes, maintaining relevance at the highest level requires bold decisions and professional management.
The Chairman assured the new Head Coach of full institutional backing, noting that stability, accountability, and performance-driven leadership would remain central to the club’s philosophy. He emphasised that the Commission expects the new technical team to restore consistency and competitiveness in line with Delta Queens’ storied legacy.

Fondly known within football circles as Coach Shey, Stanley Osazee brings with him a solid pedigree in women’s football. He previously worked with Edo Queens, where he was part of a technically disciplined and tactically structured setup, before a brief stint with Insurance FC. His return to the NWFL is widely viewed as a timely boost for Delta Queens as the club seeks clarity, direction, and renewed belief.
Speaking to journalists after his unveiling, Osazee expressed confidence in the task ahead, highlighting his familiarity with the club’s tradition and ambitions. He identified rebuilding player confidence and restoring intensity as immediate priorities, while outlining a clear objective of steering Delta Queens back into contention for major honours, including qualification for the highly competitive NWFL Super Six.

The new head coach also addressed wider challenges facing women’s football in Nigeria, particularly issues surrounding player welfare. He noted that improved remuneration, structured welfare systems, and long-term planning remain key factors in curbing the growing migration of talented players to foreign leagues. Osazee maintained that Delta Queens already possess a strong foundation and that his role is to refine, energise, and give clear direction to an existing winning culture.
Also speaking at the event, the club’s General Manager, Mrs Mercy Awhana, welcomed the appointment with optimism. She expressed confidence that Osazee’s experience, leadership qualities, and understanding of women’s football would positively influence player development, team cohesion, and overall performance on the pitch.

As the NWFL campaign returns from the forced break in two weeks, the Asaba-based club will be aiming not just for improved performances but for a full return to their status as one of the dominant forces in Nigerian women’s football.
