The just-concluded NNL Super 8 tournament in Asaba, Delta State, provided thrilling football action—but it also spotlighted some of the game’s unsung heroes: the referees. Standing tall among them was Lagos State’s own Faro Abdulrahman, who earned the prestigious award of Overall Best Referee of the tournament.

Faro’s performance across the tournament drew admiration from players, fans, and officials alike. Calm, firm, and consistent, his officiating brought a rare level of composure and authority to each of the three matches he handled. These included high-stakes fixtures like the opener between Wikki Tourists and Doma United, the keenly contested match between Crown FC and Osun United, and the crucial encounter between Wikki Tourists and Yobe Desert Stars.

Observers were quick to praise Faro’s approach—always present in the heart of the action yet never overbearing. His decisions were clear and timely, his positioning impeccable, and his style marked by fairness and control. Many spectators even noted that Faro’s matches were not only enjoyable for the football but also for the professionalism with which he managed the game.

Fans expressed how much they appreciated not just the talent on the pitch, but Faro’s signature moderation and calm authority. He ensured that the players could perform without interference, while still maintaining the rules of the game to the letter.

The NNL organizers honored Faro at the end of the tournament in recognition of these qualities, acknowledging the critical role match officials play in elevating the quality of the competition.

Alongside Faro, two other standout officials were recognized:

  • Igwe Emmanuel from Rivers State and
  • Mohammed Ibrahim from Zamfara State.

Both were jointly awarded Best Assistant Referees of the Tournament, a testament to the high standard of officiating that supported this year’s Super 8.
