Played at the Anwar Islam Model College, Oniwaya, the final was shaped as much by heavy rainfall as by footballing skill. The pitch was waterlogged for long spells, yet neither side was willing to yield in a contest that reflected the competitive spirit that has come to define the Obasa Games.

With the rain still falling and the surface becoming increasingly difficult, the goal looked like it might be decisive. However, Futurestars99 responded with composure and belief.
Seven minutes later, substitute Jude Emmanuel announced his arrival with a well-taken equaliser that reignited the contest and shifted momentum. It was a goal born of awareness and timing, and it underlined why squad depth often decides championships at this level.

Seconds later, celebrations erupted as Futurestars99 confirmed a 6-5 shootout victory, sealing their place as champions of the Obasa Games football event.
A Championship Built on Consistency and Mental Strength
Futurestars99’s journey to the title was anything but straightforward. The academy began their sojourn in the tournament with a walked-over victory over Noble 5 Stars at Dairy Farm Secondary School in Agege. Drawn into a competitive Group F alongside Spartans FC, Yamaraz FC and Prolific Stars, they showed discipline and efficiency to finish top of the group.

A goalless draw against Prolific Stars was followed by narrow but crucial one-goal victories over Spartans FC and Yamaraz FC, securing seven points and safe passage into the knockout rounds.
In the Round of 16, Futurestars99 produced their most dominant display, dismantling Olhan FA 4-0 in a performance that blended attacking flair with defensive solidity. The quarterfinal against Ace Mariner tested their nerve as the match ended 2-2 before another successful penalty shootout win, this time by 5-4.
The semifinal against SBS FC followed a familiar script. Trailing at one point, Futurestars99 showed resilience to draw level at 2-2 and once again held their composure from the spot to book a place in the final.

Reward for Growth and Patience
This triumph represents the best performance in the history of Futurestars99 FA at the Obasa Games. Just a year ago, they exited the competition at the quarterfinal stage during their debut appearance. The progress since then speaks volumes about structure, coaching, and belief within the academy.
Their efforts were rewarded with a three million naira prize, a significant boost that reinforces the Obasa Games’ commitment to youth development and grassroots sports.
A Bigger Stage for Lagos Youth Sports
The football final brought the curtain down on an expanded 2025 Obasa Games, which for the first time featured 62 teams from across Lagos State. The presence of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, added prestige to the occasion and highlighted the growing influence of the Games within the state’s sporting calendar.
Beyond football, the tournament spanned six other sports, including Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Boxing and Athletics. In total, 54 young athletes emerged as winners across the various disciplines, sharing a combined prize pool of six million naira awarded to the top three medalists in each event.

Athletes from Educational District 1 were particularly impressive, leaving a strong mark across multiple sports and reinforcing the depth of talent within Lagos grassroots competitions.
