Widely regarded as underdogs due to their lack of Nigeria National League (NNL) experience, Real Sapphire flipped the script in style, showing grit, character, and technical brilliance that left fans and pundits buzzing.

First Half Fireworks: Junaid Shines Bright

The Sagamu-based FC Ebedei started brightly, creating early opportunities and pushing forward with intent. But Real Sapphire’s goalkeeper stood tall, delivering a heroic performance that kept his side alive during those nervy opening minutes.

The tide turned in the 20th minute when Ayomide Junaid fired in a thunderous strike from outside the box to give Real Sapphire the lead—a goal that set the tone for the rest of the encounter.

Just before halftime, Junaid stepped up again—this time converting from the penalty spot in the 37th minute to double the advantage. The composure, confidence, and energy from Real Sapphire left FC Ebedei stunned.

Despite some attacking surges in the second half, the Sagamu Warlords failed to capitalize on their chances, as the match ended 2-0 in favour of Real Sapphire.

The second fixture of the day saw two former NNL teams—Joy Cometh FC and Stormers SC—go head-to-head in a closely contested affair.

Lagos-based Joy Cometh emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a crucial 45th-minute goal by Adisa Daniel just before halftime. The goal proved decisive as Joy Cometh held firm to secure all three points and position themselves strongly in the group.
