Ikorodu City started the encounter brightly, creating an early chance in the fifth minute when Peter David sprinted down the left flank and whipped in a dangerous cross. Mutiu Babalola came agonizingly close to giving his side the lead, but his outstretched foot narrowly missed the ball.

Moments later, Ikorodu City were forced into an early substitution as Adekunle Ismaila replaced the injured Babalola in the 27th minute, yet the tempo remained high as both teams battled to break the deadlock.

The second half began with renewed urgency. John Matthew nearly gave Ikorodu City the advantage in the 47th minute with a beautifully struck free kick that curled inches wide of the post, drawing gasps from the stands.

Coach Washington Egor made a decisive tactical move in the 57th minute, bringing on Okeh Emmanuel and Adeshina Afeez for Adekunle Ismaila and Peter David. The change proved inspired.
