The Lagos State Football Association (Lagos FA) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Super Falcons stars Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Shukurat Oladipupo following their pivotal roles in Nigeria’s victorious run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Chairman of the Lagos FA, Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed, speaking on behalf of the association’s board and stakeholders, praised the resilience and spirit of the Super Falcons squad, calling their triumph a powerful reflection of the Nigerian identity—determined, brave, and never backing down in the face of adversity.

He particularly highlighted the pride Lagos State feels for its homegrown talents. Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Player of the Year; Ajibade, the captain and Most Valuable Player of the tournament; Oladipupo and Ijamilusi, rising stars making their major tournament debut, were all celebrated for their excellence and contribution to the team’s success.

“The Lagos State Football Association, our stakeholders, and every football-loving citizen of Lagos are immensely proud of what you have achieved,” Hajji Gafar said. “You have not only lifted the trophy, but you have also raised the aspirations of every young girl in Lagos who dreams of becoming a football star.”

He expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for creating an enabling environment for youth and sports development through the impactful T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda, which prioritizes education, sports, and youth empowerment.

Reaffirming the association’s commitment to grassroots football, especially female development, Hajji Gafar emphasized that the Lagos FA would intensify efforts to discover and nurture new talents across the state.

“There are many more Oshoalas, Ajibades, and Ijamilusis across Lagos waiting to be discovered. We owe it to them to provide the right structure, mentorship, and platforms,” he said.

In acknowledging those who play vital roles behind the scenes, he reserved special praise for Robo Queens founder and coach, Emmanuel Osahon. Under his tutelage, all four WAFCON champions — Oshoala, Ajibade, and Ijamilusi — began their journey, further cementing Lagos as a hub for female football talent.

“Coach Osahon’s contribution to Nigerian women’s football is truly exceptional. His relentless commitment has produced not just players, but role models who continue to inspire future generations,” the FA Chairman added.
