In a remarkable achievement for Nigerian football, FIFA-certified referee Akintoye Eunice Yemisi has been invited to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) preparation course. The prestigious event will take place in Egypt from May 25th to May 29th, 2025, ahead of the much-anticipated WAFCON tournament later this year.

Akintoye’s invitation is a testament to her growing reputation as one of Africa’s top football officials. She is among an elite group of 25 referees and 19 assistant referees chosen for this specialized training aimed at honing their skills for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The course will equip the selected officials with the necessary tools, insights, and strategies to ensure they are fully prepared to officiate at the continental level, showcasing their professionalism and commitment to the sport.

Since earning her FIFA badge in 2020, Akintoye has continuously demonstrated her skill and versatility as a referee. Her experience spans multiple high-profile tournaments, including the WAFU B Champions League Qualifier, CAF Champions League, WAFU B U-20 tournament, etc. These tournaments have solidified her status as one of the continent’s most trusted officials. However, the forthcoming WAFCON will be particularly special for her as it marks her inaugural involvement in the prestigious women’s tournament.
