The eagerly awaited NLO (Nationwide League One) promotion playoffs, originally scheduled to kick off on Thursday, June 12, 2025, have been thrown into uncertainty following the suspension of activities at two key venues.

While other centres are set to proceed as planned, the venues in Port Harcourt and Ijebu Ode have been forced to put their playoff fixtures on hold due to appeals lodged by clubs that were earlier sanctioned by the NLO disciplinary committee.

In Port Harcourt, a competitive line-up featuring Ahudiyanema FC (Abia State), FC One Rocket (Akwa Ibom), Ozalla FC (Anambra State), and E-Word FC (Cross River State) was expected to battle for the sole promotional slot. However, the playoff was abruptly suspended after Cynosure Football Club filed an appeal challenging the committee’s decisions.

Similarly, in Ijebu Ode, the playoffs featuring Magic Stars, Ikorodu City FA, Lekki United, and Okaka FC have also been halted. This decision followed an appeal submitted by Franceex United FC, casting a shadow over the playoff’s integrity and schedule.

According to NLO sources, the suspended playoff matches will remain on hold until the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Appeal Committee convenes to consider the pending cases. The decision on these appeals will ultimately determine the fate of the two playoff centres and the path to promotion for the participating teams.

This unexpected development underscores the importance of fair play and transparent governance within Nigerian football. It also heightens anticipation for the outcomes at the other playoff centres, where the battle for promotion remains firmly on course.

For now, the hopes and ambitions of clubs at the suspended venues hang in the balance, with players and supporters anxiously awaiting a resolution that could define their season.

Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds and the NFF Appeal Committee delivers its crucial verdict.
