In a resounding tribute to Nigerian excellence and women’s football, the Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has honoured Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Blessing Demehin with a ₦30 million cash reward and a fully furnished home at Sunshine Estate in Oba-Ile, Akure.
The recognition comes on the heels of Demehin’s exceptional contribution to Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the Super Falcons once again emerged continental champions.
The grand civic reception, which was held on Monday, August 4, 2025, in Akure, drew top government officials, football stakeholders, community leaders, and youth representatives who came together to celebrate one of their own.

Celebrating a Daughter of the Soil
Oluwatosin Demehin, a native of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has risen through the ranks of Nigerian football, having once played for Sunshine Queens FC before earning her place on the national team. Her journey, marked by discipline, dedication, and quiet resilience, made her a standout figure at the tournament in Morocco.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his remarks, praised Demehin for her courage and commitment, describing her as “a model of excellence who has made Ondo State and the entire country proud.”
“Demehin is not just a player; she is a symbol of hope and hard work. She has earned this recognition, and we are proud of her achievements,” the Governor said.

Recognition Beyond the Pitch
In a move that reinforces the state’s commitment to sport development, the Governor also awarded ₦15 million each to Mary Akinsola, the team’s media officer, and Mary Oduboku, the team secretary. He lauded their often-overlooked roles in the team’s success story.
Renewed Government Commitment to Sports
Governor Aiyedatiwa used the occasion to restate his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment and sports infrastructure development across the state. He pledged full support for Sunshine Stars FC as the club works toward a strong return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“We are committed to seeing our local clubs thrive, and our focus on developing sports, especially among young people, remains unwavering,” he affirmed.
